The service in practice

Turn the application process into a plan.

Established in 2012, CIC’s College Guidance Center supports students in its China education programs through a coordinated team of on-campus counselors and U.S. consultants.

The approach begins with the student and family: interests, strengths, subject choices, activities and aspirations shape a personal plan that develops through the high school years.

  • College-planning courses and individual interviews
  • Parent information and preparation activities
  • Application guidance and coordination of official materials

Seven connected services

More than the application itself.

CIC’s College Guidance Center was established in 2012. On-campus counselors and U.S. consultants connect students’ interests, academic strengths and activities with a personalized college plan.

01 / College planning courses

From Grade 10, students explore goals, interests, potential majors and careers, college preparation and the application process through lessons and workshops.

02 / Parent information

Semester parent meetings, monthly online lectures and consultation updates help families understand preparation, applications and the transition to overseas study.

03 / Individual planning interviews

From Grade 10, students have two individual planning interviews per semester. Counselors review target subjects, university goals, test plans and extracurricular choices with students and parents.

04 / College preparation activities

Career Week, team community-service projects, U.S. consultant workshops and academic teamwork connect interests and experience with future study.

05 / University information visits

University admissions officers provide information sessions and firsthand explanations of admissions expectations. These visits are learning opportunities, not an assurance of admission.

06 / Application guidance

Support typically begins in the summer before Grade 12: selecting an individual shortlist, brainstorming and refining students’ own essays, completing applications, following up on decisions and preparing for departure.

07 / Official school materials

The center coordinates official transcripts, teacher recommendations and school profiles, and communicates with university admissions offices where needed.

Grades 10–12

Preparation grows with the student.

A staged plan connects self-discovery with subject choices, applications and the transition to university.

Grade 10 / Discover & plan

Set goals, explore interests and possible majors, begin college-planning lessons and develop an individual academic and activity plan.

Grade 11 / Develop & prepare

Deepen major and career exploration, review academic progress, plan standardized tests and build meaningful activities and service experience.

Summer before Grade 12 / Build the shortlist

Work with counselors on an individual shortlist, usually 8–10 universities, and begin application preparation and essay development.

Grade 12 / Apply & transition

Complete and track applications, coordinate official school materials, review decisions and prepare for university orientation and departure.
