Established in 2014 with The Barstow School and Zhenhai High School, the Ningbo program combines academic breadth with personalized pathways and a rich school community.

About the program.
Barstow School of Ningbo was established in 2014 through cooperation involving The Barstow School, Zhenhai High School and Ningbo Hanvos. In 2026, the school community comprises more than 900 students and more than 40 international teachers.
The curriculum includes 73 regular U.S. courses and 22 AP courses. Regular, Honors and AP options allow students to shape academic choices around their preparation, interests and future study plans.

The partnership
Built through collaboration.
Zhenhai High School × The Barstow School
The school was jointly founded by Zhenhai High School in Zhejiang and The Barstow School in Missouri as an important project in Ningbo’s pilot program for comprehensive reform in international educational cooperation and exchange.
The partnership has brought together Chinese and international educational resources, explored new approaches to Sino–foreign cooperation and contributed practical experience in developing an integrated Chinese–Western education model.

Subject choice and a wider campus life
A range of academic levels supports differentiated subject pathways, with college guidance connecting students’ course choices and activities with higher-education preparation.
More than 100 clubs provide opportunities for sport, creativity, collaboration and leadership. Flag football teams also participate in competition: the 2024 regional results include second place for U18 and third place for U15.
